In the 1999 quarter-final between Brazil and Nigeria, Sissi scored the first Golden Goal in a FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in the United States. The rule was applied to all FIFA tournaments from 1993 until 2004 during the period of extra time, where the team scoring the first goal was declared the winner.

The only other Golden Goal at a Women’s World Cup was scored by Germany’s Nia Kuenzer in the Final against Sweden at USA 2003.
